Grow the Next Generation

The Skills Championship was piloted during the 2016 Jobs for Youth Campaign and will run again in 2017. It provides skill development and hands-on learning opportunities; engaging industry to judge and advise participants to help foster new talent.

The championship is a half-day event where VET students will compete against others to showcase their skills. It aims to:

  • Expose youth to a variety of careers and equip them with the tools and resources they need to build a future
  • Be a platform for celebrating excellence in skills by showcasing the next generation
  • Explain the motivational and educational benefit of competitions by showing how they build competitors;' character, confidence, commitment, and self-esteem
  • Offer companies, industries, and trades a chance to meet and recruit skilled people who have demonstrated that they are at the "top of their game";

How to get involved...
1). Volunteer as an industry expert to judge the competitors and provide feedback.
2). Attend on the day with an eye to helping talented student-competitors into employment and/or further training.
