As a Trainee Software Developer, you will be trained and prepared to be market-ready with on the job training, mentoring, and coaching for a two -year fixed term. Towards the end of their fixed term contract, the trainees would well placed to apply for vacancies within the VPS, following merit-based recruitment processes. The Information Management and Technology Division (IMTD) in the Department of Education and Training provides innovative and integrated Information Management and Technology (IMT) for both the corporate areas of the Department and all government schools in Victoria.

Trainee Software Developer - Full-time fixed term - for 2 years

An exciting opportunity exists for 2 years fixed- term Trainee Software Developer (VPS3) role in Applications Development Unit within Information Management and Technology Division.

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining applications and custom solutions for specific business needs (Digital User Interfaces, Customer Relationship Management, etc.). Including custom development and integration with third-party services and working with engineers and developers on different layers of the infrastructure. Commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design and creating quality products is essential.

This role provides delivery of applications as a service, application lifecycle management and implementation of service management improvements and includes:

Develops, tests and support systems which meet business requirements within agreed timelines.
Ensures that systems developed to meet the Information Technology and Management Division's quality standards and technical requirements.
Investigates operational system problems and identifies and implements appropriate solutions as required
Works closely with senior technical staff to learn new platforms and processes.

The successful applicant would have exposure/interest in software development and would be keen to learn new technologies including Salesforce, MuleSoft, ServiceNow, Microsoft Azure etc.
