ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious communications all-rounder to join the AFL Victoria team on a casual basis to help us promote and grow community football. If you enjoy finding and telling compelling stories, this is a role that could propel your career forward.

We want someone who understands the world of digital and social media and is passionate about engaging audiences through high-quality written, visual and video content.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

  • Support AFL National Media Manager – Community Football, in ensuring AFL Victoria’s communication activity is delivering on the objectives of the business by promoting community football across the state, engaging target audiences effectively and growing the game’s audience base

  • Ensure AFL Victoria’s owned digital channels (website / social media) are maintained and updated as appropriate

  • Create and publish content, including written, graphic and video

  • Manage content calendar

  • Track engagement metrics

  • Draft media materials when required

  • Occasional proactive and reactive media engagement to generate favourable earned coverage

  • Identify opportunities to develop and tell stories through owned and earned channels

  • Ensure that communications activity is brand compliant

  • Brings a willingness to learn

  • Has a keen eye for modern trends on how brands are using platforms and content to engage audiences

  • Is interested in the football/sport media and news cycle

  • Is comfortable being part of a team and dealing with an array of stakeholders

  • Has experience working with website content management systems and content creation programs, such as Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent)

  • A formal qualification in communications, journalism, multimedia or marketing will be looked upon favourably, but is not essential
