The RMH@Home acute (HITH) Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital is growing, and is looking for a passionate and dedicated junior medical officer to join the team.

RMH@Home acute (HITH) provides patient care in the home that would otherwise be delivered in a traditional acute hospital ward. The unit is responsible for the care of patients with a range of medical and surgical conditions; with some patients admitted directly under the ‘RMH@Home acute’ unit bed-card, and other patients jointly shared with sub-specialty medical or surgical units.

‘RMH@Home acute’ is committed to continuous quality improvement, research and effective continuing education.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide excellent clinical care for patients within the unit in conjunction with registrars and other medical and nursing staff (under the guidance and supervision of the unit ward consultant physician). This can include assessing patients in the hospital/community, interdisciplinary communication with staff within the unit and other hospital staff with regards to patient care, and participating in the on-call and after-hours roster for the team and hospital.

• Participate in teaching and learning activities for medical, nursing and allied health staff

Initiate, or participate in research projects, clinical risk management and quality activities

• Participate in continuing educational activities at RMH

• Contribute to and support strategic goals within the unit and Department of General Medicine:

- quality care: provide services that meet the needs and preferences of our patients and their families and carers, including being responsive to patient/family feedback

- teaching and research in a learning environment: invest in teaching and research and promote continued excellence in health care

- working together: encourage an environment which attracts, develops and retains staff who work together to achieve our shared vision of excellence

- financial responsibility: ensure financial responsibility to optimise service delivery

• undertake other duties from time to time as requested by the Head of Unit, Divisional Director and / or Executive Director of Medical Services

Key Selection Criteria

- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).

- Appropriate health professional tertiary qualification/s

- Strong leadership and organisational skills

- Demonstrated clinical practice at a high standard

- Strategic thinking and planning abilities

- Well-developed communication, negotiation and presentation skills

- Valid driver’s license with ability to perform home/community-based patient reviews - desirable

- Experience in clinical research desirable
