Business Development Assistant (BDA)

i=Change ( is a technology platform that makes it simple and powerful for online retailers to give back to charitable projects.

By uniquely bridging the world of retail and social impact, with a focus on funding women and girls’ development projects, i=Change is turning e-commerce into a ‘force for good’.

In this role your key Business Development skills will directly contribute to creating social and environmental impact, by increasing the number of online retailers joining the i=Change platform each week.

You will conduct outreach to retailers, engage in conversations about the benefits of giving back, the i=Change movement, and how they can meet consumer demand to shop brands of purpose.

You will also respond to organic inbound leads. You will share case studies that excite, and opportunities to come onboard, to convert prospects in a timely manner.

You will have a wide-range of retailers at different stages of the journey, so your relationship management and organisational skills will be fully utilised to keep retailers engaged, and convert them into i=Change retail partners.

As part of the BD process, you will also follow retailer’s journeys, strategically provide them with updates, to show how giving can help them meet their brand, marketing and growth goals

As you’ll communicate with retailers about how giving back can feature in their acquisition campaigns, funnel and post-purchase comms - and it’s impact on customer engagement and conversions - this role requires an understanding of eCommerce and/or digital marketing; how retailer's track and measure marketing initiatives and report on metrics internally.

You will be applying your business development skills to accelerate a new retail normal of product and purpose.

Position Description

Roles & responsibilities include the following:


  • Actively seek out key opportunities to begin (or continue) conversations with retailers, engaging with senior decision makers as much as possible, emphasizing the benefits and ROI in becoming a purposeful brand, giving back from every sale with 100% transparency.
  • Support retailers to understand the value of i=Change - as a powerful way to respond to consumer’s expectations, how it can drive growth and brand value.
  • Proactively build a busy, sustainable, long-term pipeline of leads with an exponential growth trajectory.


  • Respond to all inbound inquiries in a timely manner, be skilled at managing many potential customers at different stages of the inquiry process, moving them through to sign-up.
  • Manage key on-boarding documents for brands.
  • Provide tailored account management - be skillful at delivering different levels of service to retailers depending on size. E.g. Larger retailers receive the most direct attention.
  • Introduce potential retailers to new features that inspire them to come onboard, via EDMs, phone calls and webinars, while helping keep documents up to date.
  • Share insights that develop further assets and automations for the i=Change customer success program, to help maximise retention.


Your work will:

  • Measurably increase the number of retailers and rate of growth of i=Change retail partners, which in turn increases the funds raised for i=Change’s NGOs.
  • Provide insights that help power i=Change’s retailer acquisition campaigns.
  • Support the generation of case studies for i=Change’s Customer Success Manager, with data and retailer testimonials that enhance the i=Change brand.
  • Be a key pillar of the i=Change growth and strategic plan


You will report to the COO and CEO

About you

  • You have experience working with eCommerce retailers in a business development capacity. You know this eco-system well; the tools and language of the industry.
  • You are highly self-motivated, warm, friendly and passionate about using your proven business development skills to now also create social impact. You genuinely love a fast-paced environment, working with many prospects and, as such, are extremely organized.
  • You pride yourself on your relationship building skills, your ability to work collaboratively with a small team, your emotional intelligence and attention to detail.
  • You love the idea of building upon a community of 250 brands (and counting) that are giving back from every sale. Your efforts will directly lead to exponential growth over time. You are excited by the challenge of meeting KPIs.

  • You love coming up with innovative ways to showcase new opportunities. i=Change is a unique ‘head and heart’ decision for a retailer, so you’ll draw from both to encourage retailers to come onboard.
  • While you are skilled at reading data, you are also creative and love ‘joining the dots’ to see trends and how they can be translated into further retailer acquisition.
  • You find it exciting working with a small team in a startup environment.
  • You will be instrumental in growing a movement - turning retail into a force for good.

To be considered for this position, you must have the following skills and experience

  • At least two years in a Business Development role with experience in eCommerce (or retail), and extensive experience managing a multitude of prospects of different sizes and stages of the business development cycle.
  • A proven track record in meeting or exceeding KPIs.
  • Understand how retailers operate, their key motivators, the drivers and pain points that prevent or lead to their conversion.
  • How to strategically use data; its application to retailers and their success metrics.
  • Desired additional skills: Hubspot, copy-writing, an understanding of purposeful business and the NGO sector.


  • Part time to begin (3 - 4 days)
  • Work in the ‘heart of tech’ in Cremorne, Melbourne Vic in a light-filled office. Role will be partly remote / flexible over time.
