About Department
8 West is a 24 bed unit, comprising of 20 acute General Medical beds and 4 Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) beds. 8 West also has a Discharge Lounge that operates Monday to Friday. 8 West upholds strong values of providing high quality care to our patients and excellent communication between all health professionals, from all disciplines. All staff on 8 West are required to actively participate in their own professional development and self directed learning in order to maintain high quality clinical skills and knowledge

About the Role
You are working as an assistant and support person to the Registered Nurse and Enrolled Nurse to provide delegated aspects of patient care, aiding in the smooth running of the ward environment.
Within this role, the elements of direct and non-direct patient care will be delegated in accordance with the professional judgement of the supervising Registered Nurse, and in accordance with the level of achieved educational preparation and assessed competence of each Health Assistant (Nursing).

Classification for this role will be CW11 ($51,526 per annum).

Duties

  • Work within the role and parameters determined within the position description and the specific unit duty list
  • Contribute to positive patient outcomes by ensuring all elements of delegated work is completed accurately and in accordance with St Vincent's policies and procedures
  • Participate in delegated aspects of patient care, including but not limited to assistance with: personal hygiene, nutritional needs, mobility, transfers and positioning within the ward, elimination needs
  • Ensure patient privacy and dignity is maintained at all times
  • Observation and reporting of patients considered at risk of harm to self and/or others


Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Certificate III Health Assistant (Nursing)
  • Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills including an ability to communicate effectively with other staff, patients and families
  • Satisfactory level of computer literacy
  • Permanent residency status within Australia
  • Experience in a healthcare setting, customer service setting or similar preferred
