Your new team

The Victorian Government, through Mental Health Reform Victoria has developed a workforce strategy to provide a sustainable approach to workforce shortages through investment in graduate mental health nurse positions in 2021 and Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE’s) support roles.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital/NorthWestern Mental Health (RMH/NWMH) Nursing and Workforce development team are delighted to announce the recruitment of a number CNE’s to join the innovative group of senior nursing staff who are at the forefront of workforce development activities. The team coordinates, in partnership with clinical areas, a number of entry to practice programs for mental health nurses. These entry to practice programs include graduate, post graduate and transition to practice pathways.

  • Increase the pipeline of qualified mental health staff, by providing an effective way for emerging practitioners to consolidate their knowledge and skills

  • Ensure the graduate positions have the appropriate supervision to support professional development

  • Ensure nurse educators have the appropriate skills and training to provide education and supervision

  • Reduce workforce shortfalls in the short and long term, including in areas of need

  • Increase the workforce’s skills and capacities in mental health

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Support educational activities for NWMH’s graduate and undergraduate nursing’s programs with a specific focus on entry to mental health nursing graduates. You will complement existing educational roles that work with entry to practice mental health nurses across a designated area mental health service.

  • You will contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of learning support strategies for entry to practice mental health nurses graduate nurses at NWMH. The role provides on-site education support to entry to practice graduate mental health, at their place of work, to ensure the effective delivery of quality clinical services that are recovery oriented and inclusive of carers/families

  • If you are passionate and interested in developing high quality evidence based pathways for emerging mental health nurse then come and join like-minded staff in the Mental Health nursing and workforce development team.

Your Contribution

  • Experience in working with and supporting entry to practice mental health nurses

  • A passion for mental health nursing education

  • Working as a registered nurse with a specialist qualification in mental health nursing for a minimum for three years

  • Capacity to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders

  • Autonomous and demonstrated capacity to work independently

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for self and for team members

  • A current Victorian Driver’s License, and ongoing ability to use this form of transport
